Going to start Little House in the Big Woods

We are going to start Little House in the Big Woods after the first of the year.  We are planning to make a lapbook/scrapbook style book.  Plus activities to go along with the story.

I bought a pre cut quilt for Bri to work on and we are going to make butter and bread, and other activities.

Would you like to join me?  I could put up links to the free unit study and then we could link up when you have pictures of the activities or projects?  Are you interested?  Please leave me your email and we can get it going.

If you have used a linky before, please let me know how to use it.

Have a wonderful day!

Fantastic Friday

Bri picked this costume out for herself.  You can't see the tail, but it is really cute.  She had to run to her Daddy while he was coming out of work to show him.  Some of the other guys got a kick out of it and had a good chuckle at her.  I put pink lipstick on her nose and drew whiskers with eyeliner.  We handed out candy.  We are new here and I don't know many people, so I wouldn't let her go trick or treat.  I am thinking of having a Halloween party next year.  I loved bobbing for apples and the like.  So I guess I will have to start thinking.

Today we are working on Christmas gifts.  She is making bracelets for her friends.  I hope to have some pictures tomorrow.

Have a wonderful day.

Does anyone else belong to American Heritage girls?  We love it.  Bri loves earning the badges.  She is so excited over the Veggie Tales one.  She also wants to get the Geology badge.  It adds alot to our lesson plans.  I was so glad to have found it.  Check it out here.  http://www.ahgonline.org/.  Check it out here.

Marvelous Monday Morning

I have decided to start my Monday with a post to the Homeschool Journal.  Please click The Homeschool Chick on my sidebar to read other homeschool journal posts.

In my life this week…  We are going to stick with a Mon, Wed, and Fri school schedule.  Tuesdays and Thursdays are for field trips, American Heritage Girls, Gym Days, and Art Days.  I have lost my routine in moving and am ready to get it back.  I want to get my chore routine back too.

In our homeschool this week…  We are going to start Thanksgiving themed items.  We are reading Grimm Fairy Tales and Bri really likes them.  She is going to get her Pizza Hut Book It Pizza today.  So she is really wanting lunch.  LOL

What’s working/not working for us…  I have adopted Friday afternoon as library day.  Bri really likes going and it is a great end of the week treat for us both.

Things I’m working on…  I am trying to focus on one day at a time.  I am forever thinking about what is coming up and I am missing the here and now.  It makes me impatient and rushed.

I’m reading…  Face Upon An Herbal by Kathy Lynn Emerson.     It is a great mystery series.  It is during the reign of Elizabeth I.  I don't care for modern mysterys.

I’m cooking…  There is a nice roast in the crock pot.

I’m grateful for…  our frugality that let me get my laptop, printer, and router.
I’m praying for…  all our troops coming home safe.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Have a Happy Halloween!!

Finally back!

I finally got internet at the apartment!!!

Our school year got off to a great start and we found a very good homeschool group to join.  Bri has joined American Heritage Girls also.

She spent two hours at an assisted living home.  She played Uno and Bingo with the residents.  She really enjoyed herself.  This was her first time going to a nursing home.  They are planning a trip there once a month.  I have seen where they are planning to have the girls do Gingerbread houses with the residents the next time.  That will be really fun.

School work is coming along.  We have added going to the library once a week also.

I hope to get my camera's software on this laptop and get some new pictures soon.

So glad to be back!!

Have a wonderful day!

Getting ready for the new year to start.

It is a sleepy start to the day.  I think Bri would have been happier sleeping in.  I told her that she better get into the groove of getting back to a school schedule.  School will be starting on Tuesday.

I told her that she looks like she went thru a machine.  LOL  Between the lovely haircut she did to herself at the beginning of the summer, teeth coming in, and her face plant into a wrought iron gate, I just had to shake my head.  Thankfully, she didn't get hurt really bad in any of these things.  Graceful she isn't.  LOL

But I am so grateful that God blessed me with a health and happy child.  She is full of spirit, joy, and love.

The Homeschool Journal post.

We are in the middle of moving, so I haven't been posting much.  We have moved our first day of school to after Labor Day.  That way we can get settled and chill out before we get started.

In my life this week…Is full of boxes, packing tape, and carrying boxes up and down steps.

I am inspired by…the clean and empty space of our new apartment.  It is like a new start.
My favorite thing this week was…Bri and I went to lunch at a Chinese place and to get our haircut.  It was a girls day out.

Questions/thoughts I have…My thoughs are with all the people that will be affected by the hurricane.

I’m grateful for…My wonderful hubby Rooster.  He works hard so I can stay home and teach my daughter.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…This is the view of the dock and pool behind our new apartment.

The Homeschool Journal post.

In my life this week…  We are getting ready to start "school" on Monday.  Plus we were disappointed about one apartment, but are going to look at some this weekend.

I am inspired by…  Reading other homeschool families blogs and talking to other families in the homeschool group that we belong to.  I like to know what they are doing and using.

Things I’m working on…  Getting a loose schedule together.  I don't want to take the fun out of learning at home, but I have goals and things that I want to get done.

I’m grateful for…  The wonderful families that are in our homeschool group.  They are the greatest.

I'm praying for...  Christian's further recovery.  (Please visit my blog http://www.mrsrooster.blogspot.com and go to Please pray for this baby on the sidebar and click it to go to his blog)

Patriotism is our homes

I saw this on my surf thru the webby world.  I think it is very important.

http://www.hsclassroom.net/2011/08/what-can-i-do-to-foster-patriotism-in-my-home/comment-page-1/#comment-24137

Do you visit battlefields, memorials, or other historic places around you or when you travel?  We go to The Alamo everytime we go to San Antonio.  The battle site of the battle of San Jacinto is minutes from our house.  We go there often.  Do you even know what the battle of San Jacinto is?  Why is it important?  Yes, it is the day that Texas became a Republic.  It was over in 18 minutes.  The famous "remember The Alamo" was coined.  But it was a piece of history that you can sit and touch.  It happened right there.  Have you visited Gettysburg?  That place has a feel like no other place.

Do you fly an American flag?  Only on holidays?

If you have never been to a re-enactment, you just have to go.  It is a wonderful way to learn about history.  I have seen them and also be in them.  We use to do Civil War re-enactments.  Kids love it.  Questions, Questions, Questions.  It is a great way to get a conversation going or a project started.
