Organization sure feels better!

We were on our way out yesterday and saw a neighbor that was moving and he let us have this hutch.  He had used it in the bedroom for their tv and movie player.  Oh yes!!  Free score!!

There is still one more open space!!  Yippee.  I was so glad to get rid of the plastic bins and plastic drawer thing.  Very useful, but very ugly.

What is new in your school room?

Fall room cleaning in progress

We are in the middle of Fall cleaning.  So regular "school" work is on hold.  But I should think this is a lesson in keeping things organized and put away and then you won't have a big mess.  But at eight, stuff can wait because there is always something else more important.

So we are trying to get stuff done.  I like a fresh organized room before all the holidays.

What are your favorite ways to keep things organized?  Do you hang all shirts?  Label bins for certain toys?  Go in and throw everything away?   LOL

Have a blessed day.

My baby is eight today!!

Happy Birthday, Brianna.   Love Dad and Mom.

Thinking back on the day eight years ago, the thing that stands out most to me is that sweet little bundle they handed me in the surgery.  Bri had a headful of dark, curly hair.  She looked like a little burito since she was all wrapped up.  Today, she is so grown up that I am amazed.  I am so very blessing.

Happy Birthday, sweetie.

The Artist

Here are some great projects drawn by my budding artist.  Can you guess that she is a comic fan??

Love it!!

I sure go thru the copy paper.  I buy them at Walmart where they are like 3 or 4 dollars.  I also give her all the stuff from printing that isn't useful to me, but has a empty side just ready for works of art.

Storage is another problem.  I have tons of beautiful works.  But I have stacks of them.  I try to put some of the really good ones in our school year box.  But I am getting over run.  What do you do with your growing stack of beautiful art??

Have a wonderful day.

American Heritage Girls

Today is AHG.  The girls are finishing a badge called All God's Children.  It helps them know how to deal with people very unlike themselves.  Like people in wheelchairs or with disabilities.  The leader was very good about having people with disabilities come in and speak to the group.  For some of the girls had never deal with this before.  They also worked on Sign Language and Braille.  It gave them a fresh look at what it means to be one of God's Children.

Make your own pizza day

Decided to buy pizza shells yesterday at Walmart.  So today, we made your own pizza for lunch.  We went to Kroger's to buy fresh ingredients.  Bri put on two kinds of cheese, pepperoni, and mushrooms.  I put on peppers, onions, mushrooms, and two kinds of cheese.  Cheap and fun.

I think this will be a more frequent lunch item.  I am sure it would be even better with things from the garden.

What did you do fun today?

How is your homeschool year so far?

How is your year going so far?  Ours has been a bit shakey.  But we are working out the kinks.  Rooster has a new schedule and we are working with it.

We have gone to a four day school week.  One day for park, field trip, etc.  It seems to be a better fit.

But we notice the more flexible we are, the easier it goes.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.

A new home

I will be putting my reading, reviews, and musing on another blog.  Please visit http://mrsroosterbooks.blogspot.com/

Thank you.

I am off and running

I started my first Classic book today.  I am opening with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Sign of the Four".

It is a Sherlock Holmes novel.  I really like mysteries, but not modern ones.  I really like Anne Perry.

I have now finished my list on the side bar.  Take a look and tell me if you have read any of these books and your thoughts.

Thanks!!   God Bless and have a wonderful day.

I am joining a Classic Book club

I am picking 50 classics to read in five years.  I think I actually picked 150, but we will see.

We are also going to pick 100 for Bri to read in five years.

Here is the site if you wish to join:  http://theclassicsclubblog.wordpress.com/about/

Found lots of Classics for free for Kindle.  So I am sure that will help.

Please join me in bringing the classics back.

Have a wonderful day!!

Getting ready to start Prairie Primer

We have decided to use Prairie Primer for the next several months.

Here are some links to info and how to purchase this wonderful study.  If you don't know about it, it is a unit study for use with the Little House series.  It also includes 1800's life, The postal service, railroads, etc   Things that go along with what is being read.

We are planning to continue with Horizons Math.  We are going to use different science projects and studies, Roots and Fruits (spelling and vocabulary) and something about fairies, dragons, and such for English/grammer.

Time for growing

We are growing in grow bags that I got at Wal mart for 5.00 a piece.  Bri helped me decide what plants to plant.

We also talked about seed, plant, flower, fruit and what plants need to survive.

I had Bri take a math assessment yesterday online.  She tested out at a third grade level.  I was very proud of her.  She just turned seven this past October.  I wanted to see if she was progressing like she should.  This made Mom feel better too!!

Here is Bri in her Easter dress that her Grammy sent her.

Have a wonderful day!

Going into space

We are going into space.  We are going thru the planets.  Bri did a "report" yesterday.  She picked Jupiter.  We spent some time online.  One of our favorite sites is NASA.  Not only because it is right down the road.
http://www.nasa.gov/

They have TONS of educational materials.  I don't just mean space.  Go to the educational section and be amazed.

Have a wonderful day.

Nice video of Sacagwea

We are working on Book Adventure Badge in American Heritage Girls.  This is a nice introduction for The Lewis and Clark or the Sacagwea study.

See here:  http://www.teachertube.com/members/viewVideo.php?video_id=118532

The volume leaves some to be desired.  You must register to see this video.

Welcome 2012

We got back to school work today.  Bri did math and finished a Sea Life Unit study.  She got back to work fairly easily.

I am going to be using a daily log that I made up myself to track what she does each "school" day.  That way I can keep track for myself and if I ever have to show what she has done, I can print it out.

I bought a Ancient Egyptian unit study at Mardel. (a wonderful Christian book store that carries tons of homeschool stuff)  Yippee.  I can buy Horizion math without shipping costs.  I could spend hours (and dollars) here.  They even have a person that handles all the homeschool stuff.  That way you have a contact person if you are looking for something.

Where are you at in this bright New Year?
